I learned this technique from visiting a Forestry class years ago. Before I introduce a specific function, exponential, logarithm, trigonometric, etc, I will hand out this form:
Find PDF here: Function Form. The students will fill it out as we work in class and be responsible for the information on tests. This is a first pass with this technique. I expect to make improvements to the assignment and the form each time a new function is introduced.
By the way the Forestry instructor handed out 50 questions at the beginning of the semester. The questions would be answered over the term in some way. His students were responsible for the answers on the final examination.
